How to Prevent Needles from Falling Off my Christmas Tree
Our tips on choosing a Christmas tree and preventing needles from falling off.If you prefer real Christmas trees, you know the struggle of constantly needing to sweep up fallen needles from underneath the tree. We’re here to tell you that there are a few things you can do to minimize fallen needles.
Choose a good variety
Some Christmas tree varieties hold their needles better than others. We recommend choosing a fir tree. They tend to hold their needles much better than spruce or pine trees. Pine trees are our next recommendation, spruce trees will be the worst for dropping needles.
Make sure it’s fresh
Potted Christmas trees are the best option because they’re living. This means that they’re naturally healthier than cut trees and they will be much better at keeping needles. A freshly cut tree is the next best option. Many Christmas tree farms have the option to select a tree to have cut. And lastly, if you choose a tree that has already been cut, be sure to shake it out vigorously before bringing it inside.
Give it plenty of water
Always keep the tree stand full of water. If you’re not quite ready to set the tree up when you get home, be sure to put it in a bucket of water until you set it up.
Choose the right spot inside
Don’t place your Christmas tree too close to any heaters. Heaters will crisp up the needles and is a fire hazard. Also, choose low heat Christmas lights, as regular lights can dry out the needles.
Handle the tree with care
When decorating the tree, handle the branches with care and opt for light ornaments. Heavy ornaments can put stress on the branches. If you are using some heavy ornaments, place them closer to the centre of the tree as that is where the branches are strongest. Do your best to keep pets away from the tree as well.
