Prevent Roots From Damaging Your Septic System

Protect your septic system from tree roots

How to prevent tree roots from growing into your septic field

If tree roots grow into your septic field it can be very damaging and expensive to fix. It is best to prevent tree roots from entering the septic system in the first place. Have an arborist come to access your trees before it becomes a problem.

Remove the problem trees

Tree roots grow in search of water and nutrients. So if there are trees nearby your septic field there roots might clog your pipes. Remove nearby trees or accept the trade offs.

What can be grown on top of the septic field?

Plants that can be grown near or on top of a septic field are wildflowers, bulbs, or grass. When planting or designing a landscape around a septic field it is important to plant shallow rooted plants and if plants have deeper roots they must be planted further away from the septic field.
